Kryterion Testing Network Environment Requirements

The testing center must meet all minimum hardware/software, facility and proctoring requirements.

Hardware and Software

Minimum hardware and software requirements include:

  • Hard disk space: 200 MB of free hard drive space
  • RAM: 2 GB or greater required
  • Operating System:
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 11

  • Laptops: Must be connected to an outlet power source and not powered by battery alone
  • Internet Access: DSL, T1, or cable
  • Installed applications: Google Chrome

General Office Equipment and Storage

  • Printer: On occasion, the test procedures will require that the proctor download, print and present a testing aid to a candidate. In these cases, the proctor will be responsible for retrieving and discretely providing the applicable document to the candidate. Many of these documents are in PDF format and require Adobe Acrobat.
  • Storage Area: Lockable storage must be provided for each individual candidate- such as lockers, cabinets, drawers or bins. The lockable storage is required to be located outside of the testing room.

Building

Each testing center must conform to local building, sanitation, and health codes and at a minimum:

  • Building and grounds must be clean and in good condition.
  • Restrooms are accessible.
  • Location exits must be clearly marked and unobstructed.
  • Fire extinguishers must be available and in working order. The location of the fire extinguishers must be well marked and easily accessible.
  • Adequate parking near the testing center must be available and / or near to public transportation.
  • In general, the testing center should exhibit a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere and provide a distraction free professional testing environment.
  • Testing Centers are required to abide by all laws regarding the accommodation of individuals with disabilities with respect to the accessibility of the physical premises as well as seating and computer workstation configurations.
  • Exterior signage must clearly display the name of your testing center. If that’s not possible, the name must be displayed in the building’s lobby.

Testing Area

The testing area should be free from any other activity during a test session, however, during non- testing times, the testing area may be available for other activities.

  • The testing area should be located so candidates are not disturbed by foot traffic, conversations, or outside noise.
  • Noise Canceling Headphones or disposable earplugs must be provided to candidates upon the start of the exam or located at each Kryterion workstation.
  • Kryterion does not allow candidates to bring tobacco products, food, drink, and chewing gum into the testing area.

Proper control of room temperature and ventilation

  • The testing area must be comfortable and well ventilated, with a room temperature range between 70 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 and 25 Celsius.
  • Ventilation should supply continuous air circulation.

Ample lighting

  • There must be enough lighting in the testing area so that the candidate can easily read test items, materials, and the computer screen without difficulty.

Sufficient physical space

  • The testing area must be large enough to place the testing stations, computer tables, and chairs adequately, such that the candidate can easily move about.
  • Each testing workstation must be separated by a partition or a space of five feet (1.5 meters) apart to prevent a candidate from viewing any other computer screen. If partitions are not present or an adequate amount of space between them is not available, only one person can be in the room taking a test at a time.

Workspace

  • There must be enough table space to accommodate the computer monitor, keyboard, mouse pad, and testing materials issued to the candidate. Test tables should be a minimum size of 42” L x 30” H (106 cm x 76 cm).
  • Kryterion recommends that at least one table size of 54” L x 30” H (137 cm x 76 cm) be available to accommodate the largest testing materials.

Proctoring

The Proctor must be able to view and monitor all candidates throughout the entire testing session by one of the following methods:

  • Proctor remains in the testing room at all times.
  • Proctor monitors through a viewable window into the test room (window must provide view of all candidates).
  • Video surveillance cameras installed in the testing room, providing views of all candidates. Proctor will monitor via surveillance monitor located at the proctor station.

Testimonial

Hello from the Boise State Testing Center!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for being one of the fastest-responding and friendliest vendor testing-support groups I have worked with in my last five years in this role.

I have received email responses from Carlyn, David, Ian, Kristi, Alan and Ashley in the last few months (I hope I haven’t missed anyone) on various issues and mistakenly assumed they were all coming from the same well-trained, responsive, friendly staff person.

So when I looked today to see whom to thank after another quick and friendly response from Carlyn—and noticed all these other names—it stood out that systematically you’re all doing something really right, and I just wanted to point out that it is very appreciated!

Thank you again!
