The air in New Orleans was electric, but, this time, it had nothing to do with Mardi Gras. The assessment industry’s best companies and brightest minds descended on The Big Easy for the annual ATP Innovations in Testing Conference. This year’s theme was “People, Progress, and Possibilities,” which provided a fitting backdrop for Kryterion as we shared our vision for the next era of credentialing.
The world of testing is moving faster than ever. Between the rapid integration of AI and the evolving expectations of global candidates, Kryterion’s experience at ATP 2026 distilled into three vital pillars: Customer Service, User Experience (UX), and Responsiveness.
Here is what we learned, what we shared, and why it matters for the future of your certification program.
Customer Service: The Human Heart in an AI World
If there was one major takeaway that came from this year’s conference, it was the realization that while AI is reshaping how we work, it cannot replace why we care. In our session, “Deep Breaths and Deepfakes,” we explored the delicate balance between high-tech security and high-touch support.
Attendees came away with the knowledge that customer service in 2026 isn’t just about solving a ticket. It’s about candidate advocacy. We heard from test-takers and sponsors alike that the most successful programs are those where the technology feels invisible because the support feels so present. At Kryterion, we are focusing on:
- Transparent AI: Using AI to route complex issues to human agents faster, so that no candidate feels stuck or unsupported.
- Empathy-Driven Support: Recognizing that a technical glitch during a high-stakes exam isn’t just a minor inconvenience, it’s a stressful life event for the candidate.
User Experience: Reducing Friction, Not Just Fraud
For years, the industry focus was to provide security at all costs, no matter what the candidate experience was. In 2026, the conversation has shifted. The new mantra is radical simplicity. We learned that the fatigue caused by cluttered interfaces and overly complex check-in processes is the leading cause of test anxiety.
During our presentations, Kryterion highlighted how Readiness Exams and instructional videos are changing the game. By allowing candidates to test their systems and practice the check-in process days before the exam, we’ve seen a significant drop in day-of-exam friction.
Some other key UX trends we saw include:
- Predictive Personalization: Interfaces that adapt to the user’s needs, offering help before they even have to ask.
- Frictionless Security: Implementing tools like Dual Camera Proctoring in a way that provides a 360-degree view of security without making the candidate feel like they are under a microscope.
Responsiveness: Support Wherever, Whenever
In a global economy, a standard business hour response is no longer enough. Whether it’s a test sponsor needing a quick change to an exam form or a candidate in a different time zone facing a login issue, agility is the new currency.
Sometimes companies get bogged down in all the bigger picture items and forget the crucial customer service component. When things go wrong, and they do go wrong, candidates and test sponsors need answers fast. Being able to provide support is the true key to the user experience.
Looking Ahead
ATP 2026 reminded us that the winning formula for credentialing isn’t found in a line of code, but in the success of the person sitting for the exam. As we move through the rest of 2026, Kryterion is committed to taking what we learned, including empathy in service, simplicity in design, and speed in execution to make sure your program gets the respect and customer service it deserves.
We would love to connect with your organization to talk more about how we can service you and your test candidates effectively.
