We are back with the next installment of our popular ongoing blog series where we answer the questions that we receive the most from our readers. If you missed parts 1-3, you can click HERE, HERE, and HERE. Let’s dive into more of your burning questions.
Is the summer a good time to get certified, or should I wait until the fall?
Yes! Summer is the perfect time to get your certification. Why? First off, summer is traditionally less busy than the rest of the year, which means you have more time to dedicate to studying. Plus, you can take advantage of the great weather by studying by the beach, at the pool, or outside by the fire.
The summer is also a time when people tend to take a break from studying. This gives you an opportunity to gain a competitive edge so that you are better prepared in the fall. And, with smaller class sizes in the summer, you can get a level of personalized attention that would be hard to receive in other times of the year.

What is it like being a proctor at Kryterion?
Our live proctors receive extensive training to make sure that they foster a secure and seamless testing experience. Each proctor can monitor multiple candidates simultaneously through our advanced Webassessor® platform. However, each session is given individual attention, aided by sophisticated tools and real-time visual and audio feeds.
Along with monitoring exams for cheating, Kryterion proctors are also trained to support candidates during the exam. They can troubleshoot issues to make sure that every candidate has the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in a distraction-free, secure environment. They’re trained to uphold the integrity of your exam to give you peace of mind.

How long does it typically take to study for a certification exam?
Just like Kryterion’s solutions, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Some of the factors that can influence how long it takes to study include:
- Exam Complexity: Entry-level exams will naturally require less study time than advanced, specialized certifications.
- Prior Knowledge: If you have existing experience in the subject, your study time may be shorter.
- Learning Style and Pace: Some people absorb information faster than others.
- Available Time: How many hours per day or week you can realistically dedicate to studying will directly affect the number of weeks it takes to adequately prepare.
Generally, it will probably take between a few weeks and several months to study for a certification. That’s why it’s important to set your own realistic timeline and milestones rather than comparing yourself to other test-takers.
Should I take my exam remotely or in-person at a testing center?
Both options provide solid solutions for taking your exam. That’s why it’s important to look at as many pros and cons as you can before deciding what’s right for you. Here are some to get you started:
Remote Online Proctoring
Pros:
- Convenience: Take the exam from virtually anywhere you want.
- Flexibility: Exams can be taken at a time that is right for you.
- No Travel: Save time and money on commuting to an exam.
Cons:
- Technical Requirements: You need a stable internet connection and specific computer hardware like a webcam and microphone.
- Clear Environment: Proctors often require a clear desk and may ask for a 360-degree room scan.
- Technical Issues: Internet drops, software glitches, or proctoring software problems can cause added stress.
In-Person Testing Center:
Pros:
- Environment: Test centers are designed specifically for testing, minimizing distractions.
- Technical Support: Staff are usually on-site to help with technical issues.
- Equipment: All the things you need are provided to you.
Cons:
- Travel: Requires commuting to a specific location.
- Scheduling: It might be harder to get your preferred time slot, especially in busy periods.
- Distractions: Taking an exam in a public place with other test-takers may lead to increased distractions.
So, you need to consider your personal comfort level, technical setup, and logistical constraints when deciding how and where to take your exam.
