Now that we are in the final weeks of 2025, it’s the perfect time to pause and reflect on a year that has been transformative not just for Kryterion, but for the entire professional certification and credentialing industry. This year has been defined by a collective push toward more secure, accessible, and intelligent testing. At Kryterion, we are incredibly proud of the milestones we’ve reached alongside our partners, and we are even more excited about what the future holds.
The Evolution of Certification: 2025 Trends
The credentialing landscape shifted significantly this year. We saw several key trends move from emerging to essential, including:
- The AI Revolution in Item Development: This was the year generative AI truly entered the exam-creation workflow. By leveraging AI to support item drafting, and combining it with Natural Intelligence, programs have been able to scale more rapidly without sacrificing integrity.
- Dual-Camera Security: As remote proctoring became the standard for many, the demand for higher security grew proportionally. The adoption of mobile devices as a secondary camera has provided a 360-degree view of the testing environment, significantly reducing exam fraud.
- Skills-Based Hiring: Organizations are moving away from degree-only requirements and toward verifiable skills. This has placed a spotlight on specialized certifications that offer more current proof of competency.
Kryterion 2025: A Year of Pride and Affordability
For Kryterion, 2025 was a year of hometown pride. A major highlight was the 2025 I.C.E. Exchange being held right in our backyard of Phoenix, Arizona. Hosting the credentialing community in our city was a great way for us to showcase the innovation happening at Kryterion. At the show, our sessions on AI-supported item creation and modern delivery models sparked vital conversations about the next era of testing.
We also continued to champion our No-cost Publishing model via Webassessor®. In a year where budgets were under scrutiny, giving our clients total control to edit and publish their exams without extra fees or delays proved to be a game-changer for agile certification programs. Plus, Dual Camera Proctoring remained at no extra charge.
Looking Ahead to 2026
As we look toward the new year, we see an increased focus on AI Fluency and Dynamic Credentials. The goal for 2026 is to make certification more than just a one-and-done event, but, rather, a continuous journey that lives within a professional’s daily workflow.
